Our 24/7 helpline connects you with Cocaine Anonymous meetings, recovery resources, and support. Whatever your situation, help is just a phone call away.
(866) 675-7086Attending your first Cocaine Anonymous meeting can feel intimidating, but knowing what to expect can ease the anxiety. CA meetings are welcoming environments where people share their experiences with addiction and recovery. No one will force you to speak, share personal information, or make any commitments. You don't need to register, bring anything, or prepare in any way. Just show up.
If you're nervous about going alone, consider attending an open meeting where family members and friends are welcome. You can also call our helpline beforehand if you have questions or want to talk through what to expect. Meeting locations vary — some groups meet in church basements, others in community centers, hospitals, or dedicated recovery spaces. Arrive a few minutes early if possible, though being late is never a dealbreaker.
Most CA meetings follow a general structure. They typically open with readings from CA or AA literature, followed by introductions. Depending on the meeting format, there may be a speaker sharing their story, a group discussion on a topic, or a structured study of the Big Book or the Twelve Steps. Meetings usually last about one hour.
You will likely hear the phrase "What is said here, stays here." Confidentiality is a cornerstone of the CA fellowship. Members respect each other's anonymity and privacy. You are welcome to introduce yourself by first name only, and you are never required to share any personal details you are not comfortable disclosing.
Many members stay after the meeting to socialize and connect. This is an excellent opportunity to introduce yourself, ask questions, and learn more about local CA groups. Members are often willing to share their phone numbers and offer support between meetings. Finding a sponsor — an experienced member who guides newcomers through the twelve steps — is an important part of the CA program, and post-meeting connections are often where those relationships begin.
Many people worry about being judged or recognized at CA meetings. In practice, everyone at the meeting is there for the same reason, and mutual respect is fundamental to the fellowship. You won't be pressured to label yourself, make donations, or return. CA is a program of attraction, not promotion. Try several different meetings and formats to find the groups where you feel most comfortable — and don't give up if the first meeting you attend doesn't feel like home. Every group has its own personality.
